Jotslate Privacy Policy
Last updated November 6, 2026.
Jotslate is a notes app that turns what you write into tasks, calendar events, reminders, habits and progress logs. This policy explains what happens to your information.
The short version
- Your jots, tasks, events, habits and logs are stored on your iPhone.
- There are no ads and no tracking. Jotslate counts a few anonymous app events (like "finished onboarding" or "started a trial") to improve the app. They never include what you write, and you can turn them off in Settings.
- If you use Jotslate Cloud sorting, the text of the jot you're sorting is sent to our server to be sorted and is not stored there.
What stays on your device
Everything you create in Jotslate stays in the app's storage on your device: jots, tasks, reminders, events, habits, progress logs, your name and your profile photo. It is included in your device backups according to your iOS settings. You can export it at any time (Profile > Export all data) or delete it (Profile > Delete all data).
Widgets and Live Activities
Jotslate's widgets and Live Activities read your tasks, events and habits from the app's storage on your iPhone to show them on your Home Screen, Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. Nothing leaves your device for this. Lock Screen widgets and Live Activities can be seen while your iPhone is locked; you can remove them, or hide their content in iOS Settings.
Sorting
Jotslate sorts a jot in one of three ways:
- On-device (Apple Intelligence). The jot is processed by Apple's on-device model and never leaves your iPhone.
- Offline rules. Pattern matching that runs entirely on your iPhone.
- Jotslate Cloud. Used by Jotslate Pro, and on iPhones without Apple Intelligence within the free monthly allowance. The jot's text, the current date and time zone, your default reminder time and the names of your habits are sent over an encrypted connection to our server. The server sends them to our AI provider, Anthropic, to produce the sorted result, then returns the result to your iPhone. We don't store the text of your jots. Anthropic processes the request under its commercial terms, which don't allow it to train its models on this data.
For each cloud sort, our server keeps a random install ID (generated by the app, not tied to your name, email, Apple ID or device hardware), the model used and the time. We use this only to enforce plan limits and prevent abuse. We delete these records after 60 days.
For up to 2 days we also keep keyed hashes of your IP address and, for Jotslate Pro, of your purchase's transaction ID, to enforce rate limits. The hashes can't be turned back into your IP address. If a purchase is refunded or revoked, we keep its transaction ID so it can't turn on Pro again.
If you attach a photo, document or link to a jot, the file stays on your iPhone. Its text is read on your iPhone (photos and scans with Apple's on-device text recognition). Links are opened by the app on your iPhone to read the page. Only if Jotslate Cloud sorts that jot is a short excerpt of that text sent with it, under the same terms as the jot.
Anonymous usage data
To see what works and fix what doesn't, the app sends a small set of events to our server: for example that onboarding finished, a jot was sorted (and which engine sorted it), the plans screen was opened, or a trial started, and the answers you pick to the optional onboarding questions (what you want help with, how you plan your day, how you heard about Jotslate). Each event carries the app version, your iPhone's iOS version and language, and a random install ID. Events never contain the text of your jots, item titles or anything you type. They aren't linked to your name, email or Apple ID, and we don't use them to track you across apps or websites. Raw events are deleted after 400 days.
You can turn this off in Profile > Share anonymous usage.
When you buy Jotslate Pro, the app attaches the random install ID to the purchase (Apple calls this an app account token), so Apple's notifications about renewals, refunds and trial conversions can be matched to the install. We use this only to keep Pro working correctly and to count conversions.
Reports and sort feedback
If you report a problem (Profile > Report a problem, or from a jot), we receive what you write, the app version, iOS version, device model and your plan, plus the jot's text only if you choose to include it. We keep reports to answer you; replies show up in Profile > My reports. Ask us to delete a report at any time.
If you use Fix this sort and choose to send it, we receive that one line, what Jotslate made of it, and what it should have been. We use it to test and improve sorting. Nothing is sent unless you tap Send.
Sharing into Jotslate and Siri
The share extension saves what you share (text, links, photos, PDFs) into a jot on your iPhone. Siri and Shortcuts actions run on your iPhone; what you dictate becomes a jot and is sorted the same way as one you type.
Calendar and notifications
If you turn on Show Apple Calendar or Add jotted events to Calendar, Jotslate reads your calendar events to show them in the app, and adds events you jot to a calendar named Jotslate. This happens on your device. Calendar data isn't sent to us.
Notifications for reminders, events and habits are scheduled locally on your iPhone.
Purchases
Subscriptions are handled by Apple. We don't receive your payment details. The app checks your subscription status with Apple, and when you use cloud sorting it sends proof of your active subscription so our server can apply Pro limits.
Children
Jotslate isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
