These terms cover your use of Jotslate, the iPhone app. Please read them with our Privacy Policy. By downloading or using Jotslate, you agree to them.

Who we are

Jotslate is made by Noah Livingston, an individual developer doing business as Jotslate ("we" or "us"). You can reach us at hello@jotslate.app.

Your license

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Jotslate on Apple devices you own or control, as the App Store's Usage Rules allow. Don't copy, sell, rent or redistribute the app, or reverse engineer it except where the law allows. We keep all rights to the app, its design and its name.

Your content stays yours

Your jots, attachments and everything sorted from them belong to you. We claim no rights to them.

  • Your content is stored on your iPhone and included in your backups according to your iOS settings. We don't keep a copy, so we can't recover it if your iPhone is lost without a backup. You can export it any time from Profile > Export all data.
  • When Jotslate Cloud sorts a jot, its text is sent to our server to be sorted and isn't stored there. The Privacy Policy explains what is sent and what is kept.
  • You're responsible for what you write and attach.

Sorting

Jotslate sorts a jot with offline rules on your iPhone, with Apple Intelligence, or with Jotslate Cloud.

  • Apple Intelligence. On iPhones that support it, Jotslate uses Apple's on-device model. It runs on your iPhone, is provided by Apple under Apple's terms, and depends on your device, language, region and settings.
  • Jotslate Cloud. Our server sends the jot to Anthropic's Claude API to sort it, then returns the result to your iPhone.

Sorting is automatic, and it can get things wrong: a date, a time, the kind of item, or a line it misses. Check what Jotslate found, especially important dates. Jotslate is not a substitute for medical, emergency or professional reminders, such as medication schedules. Don't rely on it alone where a missed or wrong reminder could cause harm.

Notifications and Live Activities

Notifications and Live Activities are scheduled on your iPhone and depend on iOS. They can be delayed or silenced by your notification settings, Focus, Low Power Mode, iOS limits on scheduled notifications, or your iPhone being off. We can't guarantee they arrive on time.

Acceptable use

Don't use Jotslate to:

  • break the law or infringe anyone's rights
  • send automated or excessive requests to Jotslate Cloud
  • get around plan limits, rate limits or purchase checks
  • interfere with, probe or overload our server

Jotslate Pro

Jotslate Pro is optional. In the US it costs:

  • Monthly: $7.99 a month.
  • Annual: $59.99 a year, with a 2-week free trial for new subscribers.
  • Lifetime: $179.99 once ($149.99 at launch, through November 30, 2026). It never renews and includes Pro features we add later, for as long as we offer Jotslate.

Prices vary by region and may change. You pay the price the App Store shows when you buy.

  • Billing. Apple bills every purchase through your Apple Account. We never see your payment details.
  • Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
  • Free trial. If you don't cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the annual subscription starts and you're charged. Buying a plan during the trial ends the rest of the trial.
  • Canceling. Manage or cancel in Settings > your name > Subscriptions, or in Jotslate under Profile > Manage subscription. Deleting the app doesn't cancel a subscription. After you cancel, Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for.
  • Refunds. Apple handles all refunds. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • Restoring. Restore Purchases on the Jotslate Pro screen brings Pro back on any device with the same Apple Account.

The free plan

The free plan currently includes 25 Apple Intelligence or cloud sorts every 30 days (up to 10 of them in the cloud), 3 active habits and 30 days of Progress history. After the sorts run out, jots still save and the offline rules sort them. We may change what the free plan includes, but your notes always stay readable and editable on it.

Third-party services

Jotslate relies on others:

  • Apple for the App Store, purchases, Apple Intelligence, notifications, Live Activities, widgets and, if you turn it on, Apple Calendar.
  • Anthropic for Jotslate Cloud sorting, through our server.

Their own terms apply to their services. If one changes or stops, features that depend on it may change or stop too.

Disclaimers

Jotslate is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we don't promise that it will be accurate, error-free, uninterrupted or fit for a particular purpose, or that your data will never be lost.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, missed appointments, missed reminders or lost profits, that come from using Jotslate. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid for Jotslate in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

Ending these terms

You can stop using Jotslate at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or end your access to Jotslate Cloud if you break these terms. When these terms end, your license ends too. The sections on your content, disclaimers, limitation of liability and governing law still apply.

Changes

We may update these terms. We'll change the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. If you keep using Jotslate after a change, the new terms apply.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state where the developer lives, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you live outside the US, you keep any rights your local consumer law gives you.

Apple and the App Store

These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Where they don't cover something, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies.

  • We, not Apple, are responsible for Jotslate and its content, and for its maintenance and support. Apple has no obligation to provide either.
  • If Jotslate fails to meet an applicable warranty, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
  • We, not Apple, are responsible for any claims about Jotslate, including product liability, failure to meet legal or regulatory requirements, consumer protection, and claims that it infringes someone else's intellectual property.
  • You confirm that you're not in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated as supporting terrorism, and that you're not on a US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use Jotslate, such as your wireless carrier's.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and can enforce them against you.
